This was my first experience with Augmented Reality. I had absolutely no clue about how this session would be, I had very limited knowledge about AR technology. However, considering that this event was curated by Apple, it got me thinking that it has to be the most insightful, creative, inspiring and a fun learning experience. I felt like I learned a lot after I had completed this event #todayatapple. The host Linzi Mangan guided us enthusiastically, sharing insightful information with my group using the [AR]T app (available on the app store). I must say, Linzi was lively, quick, engaging and fun. Alternatively, her colleague who was assisting, helped me see how the future of technology is rapidly unveiling right before our eyes. Today AR technology is used in medicine, online shopping stores for fashion and lifestyle, art and design, gaming etc. The whole journey from start-to-finish was very educative. Below I have listed a set of images/videos along with the artist names and their work.
#Apple invited the #NewMuseum to select artists to participate in this experimental project, which is free and accessible to the public who would like to visit or join at any Apple store. #ARartwalk
Work by #NickCave 'Amass'
Nick Cave is an American artist working across myriad mediums, including sculpture, film and performance, Cave is best known for his 'soundsuits'. Where he combines thought provoking sculptural forms and movement. The experience with the app in relation to his work was interesting, they had filters available to see his art in 3D motion and there were different styles based on his work to choose from. Filters like movement, adventure and curiosity, these were some of the themes that were available. Additionally, there were 3D objects used which represented the ornaments he used in his work. Through the app we were interacting with a 3D installation of his artwork, which consisted of both, an audio and visual experience.

Work by #CarstenHöller 'Through'
Carsten Höller is a German artist. His style is contemporary and based on logic. This installation took us into a world where the architecture was very boxy and appeared black and white. It took us through a portal, (as seen above) to a place with absolutely no perspective. A mask would appear in red, the face matched that of Carsten Höller himself. His aim however, was to invite us into a different world where everything seemed disoriented. The video below is a glimpse of this experience. #CarstenHöller

Work by #CaoFei 'Trade Eden'
Cao Fei is a Chinese artist. Her work includes video, performance, and digital media, it examines the daily life of Chinese citizens born after the Cultural Revolution. This installation looked like a fun-house, part-automated factory, testing our sharpness for packaged goods while imagining new useless machines. Every time we went close to the installation the noise of the factory would get louder, when we tapped on the boxes they would get enlarged and I noticed a fragile sticker, when we pulled or pushed the boxes, they would fall off and deter the systematic movement that was taking place. As seen in the video below.
Work by #NathalieDjurberg and #HansBerg 'This Is It'
Artists Nathalie Djurberg & Hans Berg, explores the mystery of good and evil by confronting the dichotomy of the light side (good) and the dark side (evil). Djurberg and Berg takes us on an outlandish adventure to a seemingly hollow tree with hidden magical creatures (a little man and his wolf-looking dog), worthy of a digital fairy tale. There were speech bubbles with hand-written text, which appeared hanging mid-air along the path as seen in the image above. However, some of us in my group had a negative experience with his artwork, while some of us (including me) had a more positive and comforting experience. This got me thinking about the character he used as a wolf/dog, which appeared ferocious like a wolf, but had a loving nature of a dog.

Work by #JohnGiorno 'Now At The Dawn Of My Life’
John Giorno, is a poet and visual artist. Through this walk we saw a blend of #Poetry and #VisualDesign. the AR #rainbowwalk pathway led us to Giorno’s poem (at the fountain opposite the National Gallery), this was on the real pathway in Trafalgar Square. His work was an incredibly soothing and positive experience. As you can see in the image above, there were these quotes along the way that had a spiritual message about life's journey. It is said that Giorno was influenced by the teachings of Buddhism from his trip to India, which one would've noticed so evidently in his work.

Work by #PipilottiRist aka Elisabeth Rist ‘International Liquid Finger Prayer’
Pipilotti Rist is a visual artist. The artwork in the Video above ‘International Liquid Finger Prayer’ invited us to chase a shimmering form (creature) through the beautiful city sky, as it bounces, taunts and sings. The voice of Pipilotti sounds a little creepy as the liquid text bounces. It's a prayer which was not very clear. However, I observed words like population, recycle, mother #globalissues #worldcrisis. In comparison to the previous artwork by John Giorno, (‘Now At The Dawn Of My Life’) the rainbow journey of homespun wisdom soothes the mind. While, I noticed that Pipilotti's installation was loud, a bit disturbing and playful, with a twist of mystery hanging in the air. However, the graphic element in her work, that is the shimmering liquid graphic caught my eye and looked ever-so beautiful in the city. The visual element in her artwork was extremely stunning.
