Graphic Design Journey

Updated: Oct 30, 2022

This post is about my journey through my Masters degree in Graphic Design.

My passion for nature and interest in illustration was the driving force of this project; as I started exploring the parks in London with my Sketch book. While sketching through these 3 parks, Hyde Park, Hampstead Heath, and Golder’s Hill, I began realizing the distinctive features of each of these parks and the importance of having Parks in the City. Through this journey I began to communicate the importance of having these green spaces in the midst of the city and to develop a fun and interactive tools to engage the viewers. My journey started out with a simple sketch which you can see below, and this was how the project unfolded "A WALK IN THE PARK".

“In every walk with nature, one receives far more than he seeks.”- John Muir

My aim of this project is to make the public aware of these green places in the city, appreciate them for their distinctive qualities and to be close to nature. I will be focusing on the communication of this space to it’s visitors through various design outcomes.

After observing and understanding the use of these park space through my live sketches and research, I then designed a magazine which constituted of the sketches and research and the possible outcomes which were displayed at the "Work-In-Progress" exhibition at The Old Truman's Brewery.

After the work in progress that is exploring ideas there were I came up with some possible design outcomes:

Some design ideas along the way were a 3D map and mini self-help book. After finalising on the idea to focus on Hyde Park, I looked at other artist for inspiration.

And with guidance from my tutor I began prototyping the installation. References, planing and a positive attitude.

“MUCH MORE THAN AN URBAN GETAWAY, HYDE PARK IS A LIVING ARCHIVE OF BRITISH CULTURE AND HISTORY.”-Amanda Forman

I began looking at the installation through different perspectives analysing the material, the size, the feel I thought I could make a more realistic looking model by adding more trees to make the installation feel closer to nature and adding depth to get a real sense of the park. Began looking closely at the trees that are commonly seen in the park.
